Brittany O. Berg, Registered Psychotherapist (R.P.)
Due to the fluctuating, ever-unpredictable nature of the journey through our lives, we will undoubtedly come up against situations, circumstances, and life events that can cause us to feel lost, overwhelmed, or unsure. We may come to find ourselves struggling with how to make sense of the ambiguity, discomfort, and uncertainty around us, or worrying about the unknown. We may find ourselves asking questions like, ‘Am I making the right choice?’ ‘Why do I always find myself here?’ ‘How am I supposed to be able to handle this?’ ‘Where do I go from here?’ and even, ‘Who am I?’ It is in these times that we recognize that there is no manual for ‘how to live’, and that navigating through life’s ups and downs, complications, major decisions, and unexpected and difficult trajectories is not an instinct, but a learned skill. You have taken the first step in your commitment to your own well-being, comfort, and happiness, and I am here to walk alongside you.

Philosophy
Philosophy
As a clinician, I take an insight-based approach to therapy. When we are able to reach deeper insight into the mind we inhabit, we are able to identify emerging patterns regarding particular ways we approach and manage interactions, relationships, emotions, and thoughts. We may sometimes find ourselves struggling to discover what we really want, our deepest hungers, what we fear, why we act the way that we do, or why we can become overwhelmed by certain feelings. I believe that our therapeutic journey will be a pursuit of self-knowledge, where you and I will work together to foster a profound, intrinsic acceptance and understanding of how you have developed into the unique person that you are, how you came to view yourself and the world around you in the way that you do, and of the complexities surrounding our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors.
Your First Appointment
Your First Appointment
During your first appointment we will work together to identify and assess your goals, so that we are able to collaboratively create a treatment plan catered to your specific needs, in a supportive, respectful, and safe environment. Within the couple and family environment, I will first assist you in identifying, exploring, and unpacking areas in which you wish to see positive changes, and we will use these goals to guide us on our journey. We will work with one another in the creation and maintenance of more secure and connected inter-partner/family bonds, more functional and empathic communication skills, and more effective ways of managing conflicts and distressing events.
I seek to assist you in creating a more stable, secure, and resilient sense of self, partnership, or family, in order to manage and overcome current struggles, while at the same time building the understanding and strength necessary to overcome those that will present themselves in the future.
In Practice
In Practice
In my clinical practice, I am privileged to be able to assist individual and couple clients in navigating through major life events, overcoming anxiety and depression, improving the quality of interpersonal relationships, reducing stress and anger, and in creating greater overall happiness and fulfillment. My specific skills include working with those who experience distress related to anxiety, stress, self-esteem, depression, grief, anger, career and workplace difficulties, interpersonal relationships, and sexuality. In taking a collaborative and integrative approach to therapy, I am able to include psychodynamic, attachment, mindfulness, cognitive-behavioural, systemic, and emotion-focused therapeutic modalities where they align with each client’s unique goals. I believe that the combination of these therapeutic approaches will allow you to foster a deeper and more substantial understanding of yourself, which will in turn develop the perspective and insight essential for optimal health, progress, and growth.
